Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland has passed away aged 24.
The Cowboys selected the Cowboys in the second round in 2024 and appeared in 18 games for the team, including four starts.
He recorded his initial touchdown in Tuesday's defeat to the Arizona Cardinals when he retrieved a blocked punt.
"He was a cherished team member and part of our family," the Dallas Cowboys stated.
"Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his partner Catalina and his family."
Kneeland was selected by Dallas with the 56th selection of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing college football for Western Michigan University.
His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart breaks" for the loss of the athlete who "gave his all" into every moment.
"I watched him fight his way from a hopeful kid at Western Michigan with a goal to being a esteemed pro for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley commented.
The NFL said it is "deeply saddened" by the tragic event.
His untimely death has created a gap in the NFL community, recalled as a dedicated athlete with a promising future.
