Disaster Hits as Unintentional Explosion at Police Station in Indian-administered Kashmir Claims Nine Fatalities

A devastating detonation at a police station in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has led to the loss of nine persons and harm to thirty-two additional people, according to police declarations.

The event happened when a stockpile of seized explosive materials accidentally blew up during handling procedures.

The detonation occurred on Friday evening at the Nowgam security post, where detonation agents confiscated in Faridabad region in the northern state of Haryana were being kept briefly.

Regional law enforcement head stated that the detonation substances were scheduled for scientific analysis when a "deeply regrettable" incident during processing caused their blast at approximately 11:20 PM local.

Police Statements

Police authorities asserted that this was an "accidental detonation" and not a militant action. "Any other speculation regarding the origin of this occurrence is unwarranted," emphasized the law enforcement head during a media conference.

The law enforcement facility endured significant harm from the blast, with adjacent buildings also being impacted by the strong explosion.

Impact and Casualties

Multiple vehicles were "consumed by fire and reduced to charred husks, with wreckage spread across the site," according to authority statements.

"The force of the explosion was such that some body parts were retrieved from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 meters distant the police station," stated an police contact.

The majority of the casualties were security officials, along with forensic personnel, two evidence documentation specialists, and a clothing professional who was present with the personnel.

Administration Action

The area's Lieutenant Governor conveyed condolences and declared that an inquiry had been ordered into the devastating event.

"I have commissioned a probe to ascertain the cause of the accidental explosion. Deeply anguished by the death of valuable individuals due to profoundly sorrowful unintentional explosion at Nowgam security post in Srinagar city. My commiserations to the mourning loved ones. I wish for speedy recovery of the harmed," stated the authority on social media.
