Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
