During a White House roundtable discussion, Kristi Noem this week compared antifa to MS-13, Hamas, Hezbollah and the Islamic State, describing the loosely affiliated street activists “equally threatening” as officially recognized terror groups.
“They are just as sophisticated as MS-13, as the Tren de Aragua, as Isis, as Hezbollah, as Hamas, as all of them, they are just as dangerous,” the secretary stated. “They have an agenda to destroy us, similar to other extremist groups we’ve dealt with for decades.”
The discussion featured rightwing social media journalists including Andy Ngo, Nick Sortor, Katie Daviscourt among others who report on anti-fascist demonstrations.
Several organizations mentioned by the secretary – the Palestinian, Lebanese, and jihadist factions – are formally designated terrorist organizations that control territory, run armed branches, maintain command structures and have executed large-scale assaults including explosions, kidnappings and assassinations.
Specialists in radical movements have long described the anti-fascist movement, by contrast, as having no centralized leadership, official membership or structured hierarchy, and it has generally been described by federal law enforcement as a decentralized movement of activists who engage in protest activity, some of which has included property destruction and public clashes.
This meeting follows an executive order issued in September classifying anti-fascist activists as a “domestic terrorist organization”.
Shortly prior to the declaration, Joe Biggs who was convicted and then pardoned for his actions during the Capitol events wrote on social media: “Who is prepared to pursue anti-fascist activists? Because I know a few guys.”
