Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session

The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.

Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.

Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.

Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he spun at corner four early in the session.

Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the fence.

The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.

Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second behind Piastri's best.

The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
