Jones has disclosed that Mohamed Salah said sorry to the group of players following the controversy from his public comments.
Salah was left out from a key Champions League match after criticising the club and stating his relationship with manager had broken down.
“Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff,” Jones told Sky Sports. “He apologised to us and was like: ‘If my words hurt anyone, I'm sorry.’”
The manager has chosen not to disclose on whether he received a personal apology from the 33-year-old forward.
The player stated that the squad's reaction was unchanged. “He was the exact same Mo, his demeanour was positive and everybody was exactly the same with him,” Jones added.
Jones also implied that a competitor wanting to play is a positive trait. “It's clear there are specific approaches you can handle situations,” he said. “However, if a player is content to just sit out, then I think that’s a bigger problem.”
The team's performance have remained strong in the games following the initial controversy. The player is convinced the Salah's words were not designed to harm the team.
“In moments of frustration, it’s always been from a good place,” he finished. “That chapter is closed and we’re building chemistry, performing and securing victories.”
