As stated by the UNHCR, in excess of 60,000 individuals have escaped the Sudanese city of el-Fasher, which was seized by the militia RSF recently.

There have been multiple executions and crimes against humanity as militia members took control of the city after an 18-month blockade featuring starvation and heavy bombardment.

The movement of those escaping the violence towards the community of Tawila, roughly 80km (50 miles) west of el-Fasher, had grown in the past few days, as stated by UNHCR spokesperson.

Survivors were narrating shocking accounts of abuses, including sexual violence, and the organization was having trouble to locate enough accommodation and nourishment for them.

Each child was experiencing nutritional deficiencies, she noted.

It is estimated that more than 150,000 people are presently stranded in el-Fasher, which had been the military's last fortress in the western region of Darfur.

The RSF has disputed broad claims that the executions in el-Fasher are driven by ethnicity and resemble a pattern of the Arab fighters focusing on non-Arab populations.

Yet the paramilitary group has custodied one of its militiamen, Abu Lulu, who has been accused of summary executions.

The organization distributed video showing the fighter's detention after identification that he was behind the killing of multiple civilians in the vicinity of el-Fasher.

Social media platform has verified that it has suspended the channel associated with Lulu. Uncertainty exists whether he had controlled the profile in his identity.

Sudan was plunged into a domestic fighting in April 2023 following a intense power struggle began between its military and the RSF.

The conflict has resulted in a famine and allegations of genocide in the Darfur area.

In excess of 150,000 persons have lost their lives in the conflict throughout the country, and approximately 12 million have abandoned their homes in what the United Nations has described as the biggest global humanitarian crisis.

The seizure of el-Fasher solidifies the territorial division in the country, with the Rapid Support Forces now in command of the western region and much of adjacent Kordofan to the southern area, and the army controlling the main city, Khartoum, central and eastern regions along the Red Sea.

The competing factions had been partners - coming to power together in a takeover in 2021 - but disagreed over an globally supported initiative to transition to civilian leadership.
