Fresh particulars have surfaced concerning the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on Sunday.
According to a report quoting a person close to the family, a massage therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after not being able to enter the home. The practitioner then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
When she went into the home, Romy found her father's body. Accounts indicate she then fled the house in anguish, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. A companion who had gone with her contacted 911. Afterward, emergency responders discovered Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of murder in the first degree, including the charge related to a weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently being held and is ineligible for bail.
The person close to the family also disputed several initial details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner told first responders that her brother Nick lived in a separate structure on the estate, she did not point to him as a person of interest at that moment.
Furthermore disputed circulated notions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "concerned" about Nick's conduct in the preceding period. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation also extends to descriptions of reportedly "unstable" conduct by Nick at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. Although the source said they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they maintained that claims of a "heated argument" between the two were not correct.
Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had yet to determine at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some accounts suggested the condition of their bodies suggested they had been dead for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was set to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had not been medically cleared and would be unable to attend until Wednesday at the earliest.
