Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal discussions I perceive the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”
The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with performances like these.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
