It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
