Three-time National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee when the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Heat.
Jokic sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter in an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player came down on the footwear of Jokic, who immediately went down to the floor holding his leg.
The star, that tops the NBA season in rebounds and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to sustaining the problem.
Jokic will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the seriousness of the injury.
"Right away, Jokic knew something was wrong," commented Denver coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Whoever who is injured, that's gut-wrenching, most notably a player as special as Jokic. More information will come tomorrow."
"The team will adjust as a team. Clearly, right now, I am focused about Jokic personally and the disappointment of going through something of that nature."
